Mark Fast, the Canadian wunderkind knits designer who made a splash at London Fashion Week for using size 14 models, has been shortlisted for the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award for Ready to Wear.  Every year, the British Fashion Council recognizes an influential and directional designer who is emerging as an influential force in British Fashion.  Previous winners include Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Louise Goldin, and Antonio Berardi

Mark designs by hand on a domestic knitting machine. His work is formed onto the body as he knits, and he has devised innovative stitching techniques, blending lycra with viscose, angora or wool. He is inspired by the endless possibilities of lycra yarns, sculpting areas of tension and areas of volume over the body. Mark’s fascination with the cinema drives his creative process as he channels the energy of the characters who inspire him into his knits. Obsessed with texture, Mark’s most recent work explores the relationship of garments to the wearers body.

To draw focus to the draping, density and volume of the dresses as they relate to women’s bodies and to challenge traditional notions of fit and idealized body shape, Mark bucked tradition and used size 14 models in his SS10 runway show, causing an uproar at London Fashion Week.   To qurote Mark from a recent interview in Sunday Times Style, “Knits have a more intimate relationship with the wearer than tailoring or corsetry. The garment takes on the shape of the person inside it, and the finished look is always a collaboration between the two.”

Mark Fast will be available starting December at Curve LA and NY.

Life uninterrupted…..

Now at Curve: I R O

August 27, 2009

Curve is excited to introduce IRO, a casual and bohemian, yet sexy collection of Parisian streetwear.  Owners and brothers, Laurent and Arik Bitton utilized their background in the music industry while running the family’s fashion business, and in 2002 decided to launch their own line. Already a huge success in its native France, IRO pieces are crafted with particular attention to pattern, texture, and detail to embody the fresh and feminine spirit of modern young women.  We just got in edgy, rock glam pieces like foldover raw silk pants and shorts, thin and slouchy cotton tees with knotted shoulders, acidwashed denim jackets and vests à la 1987, and low suede paperbag boots that give a rocker edge to any look.  Come to Curve in Los Angeles, New York and Miami to witness the new wave of French style for yourself -

Preen is Finally Here!

February 27, 2008

Preen SS08 has finally arrived at Curve!  Those of you who follow Preen know that it’s one of the most beautiful collections we carry!  The design duo, Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton, have really outdone themselves this season.  Here’s some of the styles we just received -

 Preen SS08 #2

Preen SS08 #1
Preen SS08 #3

Runway Show Review from Style.com -

“Each Preen collection exists within the context of the one before. “Where we left off with last is where we start,” Thornton told Style.com. “It’s always a journey for me and Thea.” So last season’s fixation on the eighties aggressions of Claude Montana or, if you prefer, Thierry Mugler (neon-pinks and new-wave zippers and pleats like the exoskeleton of an insect) softened into shiny satin wraps, parachute pants, and lace bodysuits—call it Versace territory.”

“Graphic body-con silhouettes alternated with slouchy sensual ones; silks mingled with suedes; and everything was worked up in a Saint-Tropez palette of sand, blue, olive, lilac, orange, and white. The active-sport touches—drawstrings and anoraks—looked especially good. What Thornton and Bregazzi do best is a mash-up of classics: silk blouses, trousers, and bathing suits, like the showstopper worn by Anja Rubik. Next stop, L.A.?”
