Mark Fast, the Canadian wunderkind knits designer who made a splash at London Fashion Week for using size 14 models, has been shortlisted for the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award for Ready to Wear. Every year, the British Fashion Council recognizes an influential and directional designer who is emerging as an influential force in British Fashion. Previous winners include Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Louise Goldin, and Antonio Berardi
Mark designs by hand on a domestic knitting machine. His work is formed onto the body as he knits, and he has devised innovative stitching techniques, blending lycra with viscose, angora or wool. He is inspired by the endless possibilities of lycra yarns, sculpting areas of tension and areas of volume over the body. Mark’s fascination with the cinema drives his creative process as he channels the energy of the characters who inspire him into his knits. Obsessed with texture, Mark’s most recent work explores the relationship of garments to the wearers body.
To draw focus to the draping, density and volume of the dresses as they relate to women’s bodies and to challenge traditional notions of fit and idealized body shape, Mark bucked tradition and used size 14 models in his SS10 runway show, causing an uproar at London Fashion Week. To qurote Mark from a recent interview in Sunday Times Style, “Knits have a more intimate relationship with the wearer than tailoring or corsetry. The garment takes on the shape of the person inside it, and the finished look is always a collaboration between the two.”
Mark Fast will be available starting December at Curve LA and NY.

Now at Curve: I R O
August 27, 2009
Curve is excited to introduce IRO, a casual and bohemian, yet sexy collection of Parisian streetwear. Owners and brothers, Laurent and Arik Bitton utilized their background in the music industry while running the family’s fashion business, and in 2002 decided to launch their own line. Already a huge success in its native France, IRO pieces are crafted with particular attention to pattern, texture, and detail to embody the fresh and feminine spirit of modern young women. We just got in edgy, rock glam pieces like foldover raw silk pants and shorts, thin and slouchy cotton tees with knotted shoulders, acidwashed denim jackets and vests à la 1987, and low suede paperbag boots that give a rocker edge to any look. Come to Curve in Los Angeles, New York and Miami to witness the new wave of French style for yourself -

Meadham Kirchhoff Awarded Topshop’s New Gen Funding Again
December 27, 2008
Edward & Ben (Meadham& Kirchhoff, respectfully) have been awarded sponsorship for their next runway show from TopShop & the British Fashion Council. The New Gen sponsorship program began in 1993, and quickly became the recognized launchpad for emerging fashion talent in the UK. Past alumni include Alexander McQueen, Mathew Williamson, Giles Deacon, & Julien Macdonald.
For those of you who are familiar with the insanely unique statement jackets we’ve been carrying by them the past couple seasons (Rihanna just bought two), you’ll be happy to know that we’re getting their super ripped and tattered jeans in this Spring!! Below is a sneak peek of what to expect….it’s no surprise that they’re being recognized again for their talent and we congratulate them!!

Kimberly Ovitz featured in Women’s Wear Daily
December 19, 2008
Kimberly Ovitz is featured as one of the new designers to watch next season in today’s Women’s Wear Daily. Sure, she’s the daughter of Hollywood heavyweight Michael Ovitz, but she’s no Queen Elizabeth – her resume boasts an internship at Chanel Paris and stints at cult favorites like Imitation of Christ and Ya-Ya. Her inaugural collection is equestrian-centric, but constructed with an easy, minimalist approach. I’m really excited about this collection and it deserves all the buzz it’s been getting. Plus, we all know what huge fan of androgynous clothing I am…….Her line debuts her line this Spring at Curve NY and LA.

Evenings in Vogue Event at the Gansevoort South, 11/20/08
November 29, 2008
Curve was selected by Vogue Magazine to style a fashion installation at the Miami edition of their “Evenings in Vogue” parties, at the Gansevoort South Hotel & Residences. One of the hosts, Loren Ridinger, is also one of Curve’s best clients so we were anxious to impress her and to show everyone what Curve is all about. Curve Soleil, Nevena’s 3rd location, is opening in the lobby of the Gansevoort South next month, so she hand-selected pieces from our most popular collections to give Miami a sneak peek of what to expect in December and next Spring in all of our stores….
The event was gorgeous – guests were greeted by two custom Aston Martins parked in front of the hotel. Once inside, they were whisked up the express elevator to Plunge, the Gansevoort’s rooftop pool and outdoor club, to enjoy cocktails by Grey Goose Vodka and a bevy of other complimentary treats. It was a balmy 57 degrees that night (yikes), so special thanks to the models for pulling it off and making it look at least 80!!! Overall, the event was a huge success – Vogue was happy, the hosts were happy, the guets were certainly happy, and someone even bought one of the Aston Martins! Afterwards, the elite set migrated to Loren’s villa to ring in her birthday at midnight but Nevena chose to spend time with her new son, Dorian. That’s the only party I wanted to be on the list for*
In the end, we managed to create quite a buzz about Curve and the new store, so I can’t wait to come back for the opening. And the weather. But mostly the opening***
